'Double
Act' is a collection of ten plays by highly regarded
modern British and American dramatists. The plays are
short enough to be acted out by students. Each pair of
plays is linked in two ways: thematically, allowing
students to consider different treatments of an idea, and
by genre, giving students an understanding of the variety
of means open to dramatists to express their ideas. Power
(Revue Sketches); Conflict (parable Plays); Relationships
(Comedies); Sentiment and Sensationalism (Melodramas);
Neglect (Absurdist Plays) The plays are neither abridged
nor simplified and each play is followed by a glossary,
explaining in context difficult but important words. |
